Summer War is a once-upon-a-time epic fantasy told in under a hundred pages. It’s also my introduction to Naomi Novik. A bite sized sampler loaded with battles, royal family dynamics, sorcery, mythical beasts, and a race of immortal beings, this novella feels like a portal into Naomi Novik’s universe of works, and I’ll be immediately jumping through, directly into the Temeraire series.
